Surfing Mums have raised over $10,000 during 2017 and 2018 for Lifeline Northern Beaches and are on a quest to raise another $5000 this year as part of the Lifeline Classic!
Surfing Mums recognise the importance emotional and physical well-being and the need for access to mental health support not only in our group of mums but also in the wider community, especially in our youth. The rate of suicide on the Pennisula is such an important issue and the Surfing Mums are passionate about supporting Lifeline so that it’s life saving services can continue.
Having struck a chord with the community over the past two years, the Lifeline Classic will be returning to the Northern Beaches in April. Bigger and more relevant than ever, this year Lifeline Classic teams are aiming to break their fundraising record for suicide prevention, and set themselves a new benchmark.
With eight Australians attempting suicide every hour, and eight suicides occurring on our shores every single day, this is an issue that needs Australia’s attention. The Lifeline Classic teams are raising funds to help reduce these sobering statistics.
Lifeline provides not only a 24 hour telephone crisis support service (Ph. 131143) and live chat. The Northern Beaches office also offers services such as;
Face to face counselling
Financial counselling
Support groups – depression, anxiety, Mums, grief and loss, suicide bereavement and more
And a community visitors scheme where volunteers visit isolated aged people in care facilities.
